Aviation technology is no longer the most exciting technological field. The possibilities of the computer and the cell phone receive the most media attention. The decline of the popularity of aviation technology does not make it any less exciting or important. If a person wants to pursue a career related to aircraft, there are several things he must do. Before he decides on any schooling, he needs to know what he wants to do. Pursuing a career as a pilot is a great choice for someone who wants to fly a plane. Becoming an engineer works for people who want to design a plane.

Pursuing a career as an aviation technology mechanic will suit those who want to keep the planes above him in the air. Pilots face the most demanding physical requirements of any job in Aviation technology. They need to pass physicals and meet requirements that the passenger does not. The training may not require a person to hit the books, but a pilot will spend many hours in flight simulators before he is finally let behind the controls of an actual aircraft. Aviation technology engineers face a demanding sets of mental requirements for their job. The must complete at least four years of school beyond high school.

Math and science classes prepare the way for the work that he must do. His designs will go through many revisions before his company uses them in real-world applications. Mechanics, like the pilot, have a hand-on aviation technology career. They will make sure that the design the engineers put into place are in proper working order. A good aviation mechanic knows he has to do his job right while the plane is on the ground. If something goes wrong while in the air, the pilots, crew and passengers cannot fix it.
